When: Thursday, May 29, 2014

Details: The board of directors and staff of the Fort Bend Women's Center offered their volunteers a "twofer" this year.

Not only were they treated to a dinner of lasagna, salad, garlic bread and wine, they also got a first look at the new PennyWise Resale store, 501 U.S. 90A in Richmond, almost a week before its grand opening.

Many volunteers at the dinner played a big part in getting the store ready for the public. Others can be counted on to help stock the shelves with donations of housewares, home decor, linens, lamps, framed art and clothing.

Volunteers singled out for exceptional service received awards. Volunteer of the Year awards went to Dorine Craig, Boogie; Jackie Johnson, shelter; Julia Cruz, PennyWise; Mary Kay Turner, programs; Sandy Hill, administration; Mehana Parikh, youth; Doug Heath, board member; Lane Pearson, Council of Resources member; Dawn Schordock and Kim Elliott, STARS members; Mindi Zemanek, Junior Service League; and Stacey Kuithe and Claudia Elder, Girlfriends Giggle.

The President's Award for Programs went to Debbie Glasser and her two therapy dogs, Whopper and Nikki; the President's Award for Non-Programs went to Amy Olson; and Steve Ewbank is the Overall Volunteer of the Year for 2013.

Corporate/community groups honored were Classic Chevrolet, National Charity League Lady Birds, Fort Bend Chapter of the Women's Council of Realtors and Wharton County Junior College.
